More school bags!!!

Last December was a milestone for Foetsie Foundation!! Two of our Nigerian friends, very much involved with the foundation, went out to some schools to deliver more school bags to the pupils. Of course they went out on their own, since both Stefan and I were in the Netherlands, which was very exciting for them and us!

After day one, I received some very enthusiastic messages from both of them, informing us that they really enjoyed the distribution and were looking forward to the next day!

They were able to distribute another 300 bags to pupils in 6 different schools! The schools were picked by them, using the criteria we always use when selecting schools for the distribution.

They made us very proud after showing the pictures! The schools chosen were small, remote and with a lot of challenges, which made them perfect candidates to benefit from the foundation.

A big "Thanks" goes out to Joseph and Tunji!! It feels good to know you are continuing the work of Foetsie Foundation on your own!! Hopefully more donations will follow to continue these great trips and help even more pupils!!!

Second part of donating bags!!!

After the big success of last year were we donated bags and purses to 3 schools, we have been able to extend this project for another 17 schools in the rural areas of Ilorin. Again the pictures are clear on how much impact this all makes to the children!!

A big thanks goes to the “Friends of Foetsie” who are all so generously donating to our foundation! Without all your help we would never been able to support the poorest children in Nigeria!! This small gift means the world for them!!!

In the next few weeks we will be able to donate the rest of the materials to schools, for pupils to enjoy when starting school again in September 2014.

First distribution of playground materials

We finally started to distribute the playground materials. We have developed swings and see saws for 11 schools in the Ilorin area. All pictures will speak for them self!! In the next 3 weeks we will complete the installation at the other schools and will add some more pictures to the website.

A big thanks goes out to Manon Visser and Jelmer Bouman for their donation for 5 schools! As you see on the pictures the schools are well aware of the contribution of Jelmer and Manon by officially handing over the signboard with their names, for community members to remember them!

Also another big thank you to all the pupils of Primary school De Schelf for their donation of last year! Aside from the Moshe Gada playground area and some of the bunk beds, their donations reaches so many more of our goals! Part of the money is used for 6 schools to install swings and see saws at their compound for all the pupils to play with during break time. Still the money is not finished!!! The remaining donation will be used to donated bags and purses to pupils in rural schools.

Our Nigerian Support

Aside all the help in the Netherlands we could never have done all of this without our Nigerian support!! Their own financial situation may not allow them to support in the way our Dutch friend can, but the way they have helped us produce the materials, distribute the materials, select suitable schools and contact the school,  capture all in beautiful pictures and just sharing the excitement with us during the school visits is even as valuable. Without their help and support we would never been able to let the Foetsie projects grow as big as it has!!

Tunji; thank you for helping produce all the materials and the never ending support you have given to all the “un-Nigerian” ideas we have had!!! You and your family have been so lovely for us!!

Dare; thanks a lot for all your help with the playground materials, following up on the progress and supporting us during the visits!

Odofin; thanks for your help in organizing the visits, contacting the right people and sharing the excitement and translations during the visits

Joseph; our overall supporter!! Thanks so much for taking all these beautiful pictures, driving us to all the schools, sharing our work on facebook and helping during the distribution of all materials. Your excitement and support means a lot for us!

And even though he's not Nigerian, but an international working in Nigeria: Haidar Hammoud, C.E.O. of Duravil Engineering LTD. Thank you so much for supporting us with the distribution of the playground material. Without the donation to use of your truck and your staff free of charge, we would not have been able to bring all these materials to all the school in one day. You saved us so much time and money and we are very gratefull for that!

Building a Nigerian support group as Friends of Foetsie will allow us to keep on supporting Nigerian children in school. These friends have showed us that even though we are about to leave Kwara State, they will keep on supporting Foetsie projects, which means the world to us!!!

Wonderful nights for Moche Gada pupils

Thursday 23rd January was the big day!!!! The opening and official commissioning of the Moche Gada teachers and pupil house. Before the official opening there were lots of speeches by ESSPIN, the LGEA and State partners about their achievements for pupils in Kwara State. And ofcourse Foetsie had to speech as well...... Somewhat puzzled I took the opportunity to explain the goal of our foundation and the work we do. I also took time to explain who is responsible for all these generous donations. We have to thank all our families, friends, former co workers and other interested people in our foundation for their donations. Their money goes directly to the children in kwara State, Nigeria. I am proud to say that in my opinion the applause they gave to me was the best, specially because all children showed their appreciation as well!! And that is why we put as much effort as possible in the foundation and make these project a succes. The pupils of Moche Gada now know, who has donated their playground and beds, and they appreciate it very much!!

After all the speeches the children of Moche Gada Primary school demonstrated how ESSPINs program impact on the way the teachers teach their lesson presently. It was a lot of fun to see how the children showed the use of songs, games, different teaching aids and groupwork. These are some of the focuspoints of our teacher development program!!

And then........ it was time to open the house officially. Together with the pupils we entered the house and marked all the beds with a special sign, so that they always will be remembered about the donators of their own bed. Some of the children even tried to read the signs, which I thought was quiet impressive. All pupils picked out a favorite bed and we took some pictures to send to the Netherlands!! In that way we can show our family, friends and donators what we have done with their donations.

On our photo page you will find many more pictures of this great event. In the newsletter you will also find more information about this and all the other projects we do with the foundation. Our impact gets more clear every day and we are proud to see how much we can contribute to the lives of these children. There are even people who come to the ESSPIN office now and request for donations on their projects, and eventhough we are a small foundation, we will try to do our best and reach as much children as possible!!Thanks to all of you who support our work!! Withour all your help we can not make this happen!!
